Brendan O’Connor
Brendan O'Connor began his career as a tattooer in 2005 - completing a traditional apprenticeship under Mr Andrew Stephens in Brisbane's South. Since then, he has been honoured to receive invitations to work in many diverse domestic and international locations including New Zealand, Germany, Japan and South-East Asia.
His work encompasses many different facets of modern and traditional Japanese-Style tattooing which he accomplishes with grace and care. Despite this, Brendan freely acknowledges that he is something of an outsider to Irezumi and can merely imitate the art with the highest respect to true Japanese masters of the craft, whilst incorporating elements and imagery from his own mixed Australian heritage.
Brendan cites local artists Swirly Sinatra, Matthew Cunnington and Shannon Naylor as the highest influences on his creative style, work ethic and professionalism. To these friends and peers he is eternally grateful.
Since 2020 Brendan has been privileged to work alongside the supremely talented artistic collective at Westside Tattoo Brisbane & The Laser Company. In 2023 Brendan was graciously handed the reigns by friend and mentor of over twenty years, Matthew Cunnington.
